The techniques of Muay Boran come from the various Thai regional styles (Muay Chayuth, Muay Korat, Muay Lop Buri, Muay Pra Nakorn…) and the special thematic styles (the Muay Luang Royal Guard style, the Hanuman style).

It is therefore correct to say that Muay Boran is at the same time traditional and modern :

- traditional in the way that its techniques, tactics and strategies were created centuries ago
- modern in the sense that the classification of the technical corpus was completed only a few years ago by Muay Thai Grand Masters not only fully aware of their art's history and committed to its present but also very concerned with its future development.

The reconstruction of Muay Boran was achieved in two phases.

Phase 1 : in Thailand
The following personalities sat at the commission whose assignment was to gather the techniques, principles, strategies and various passed and present styles of Thai boxing :

Doctor Somphon Saengchai
Grand Master Yodtong Siwalala
Mr.Patchorn Muensorn
Mr.Natchaphon Banlenphadith
Mr.Jarusdej Ulit
Mr.Paosawat Saengsawan - Président

Each of these personalities is an expert in a particular aspect of the art of Muay Thai. Their shared knowledge and work led to a first classification of the numerous Thai martial techniques some of which had been forgotten even in Thailand and some of which had been banned by the rules and regulations of Thai boxing as a ring sport.

Phase 2 : in Europe
It was Master Chinawut Sirisompan who took on the endeavor to promote the work of the commission in the West and to help non-Thai practitioners discover the richness of Siamese martial traditions.
For that purpose, he has structured a technical progression in ranks called "Khan". This progression is in use as the official technical basis in all the IMBA academies in Europe.

Marco De Cesaris, formerly dedicated to competitive Thai boxing, started his fruitful collaboration with Grand Master Chinawut Sirisompan in the early 1990's. Grand Master Chinawut Sirisompan was recently appointed Honorary Chairman of IMBA.
